LAZINESS AND PROCRASTINATION
Laziness is the quality of being unwilling to work
or spend energy. It is also the unwillingness of a person to fully utilize
his/her potential despite knowledge of existence of such potentials. Procrastination
is the habitual and intentional postponement of something that should be done
or to delay doing something until a later date because you are unwilling to do
it or because you are lazy. Procrastination is a manifestation of laziness. Laziness
is the biggest enemy of personal progress and its one of the reasons why people
never get to realize their dreams.
Take the story of a seed in to consideration; a seed is supposed to grow naturally however in order for it to grow certain laws must be observed. The seed need to be in the soil, in the soil, there must enough moisture, oxygen and optimum temperature. If any of the above condition is not provided, then you will not be seeing a plant develop from the seed no matter how long you wait. Imagine now, your talents and abilities are like the seed. In order for you to enjoy the fruit of your talent, you need to attend to your talent. You need to put in more time, more practice and more endurance. You need to invest time and energy in to your talents and abilities
Hard work is the secret of achievement of goals. For
those of us willing to live our dreams and accomplish our visions, smart work
is necessary. Smart work is hard work channelled towards a specific goal. Smart work
like so many of us confuse it for, is not working little and spending less
energy. Working smart could literally mean sleepless night and experiencing
backaches. It is channelling all your energy, efforts, skills, time and
resources towards a specific achievement. This will mean eliminating all unnecessary
digressions and remaining focused on one thing. Someone once said that in order
for you to be unique and outdo your competition, you must be willing to die on
the trade meal for there are not so many of us willing to do just that. It is clear to all of us that the reward for laziness is
poverty and misery and no lazy person has become rich.
People believe in luck, but those whose goal is to
live their purpose, understand so well that luck only meets those who are
prepared. In my book, ‘TEN-STEP RECIPE FOR SUCCESS’ I wrote; “if you want something
it is about time you asked yourself this question, “how much do I need it?’ if
you need it so bad you will go out and fight for it, you will give up your time
peace and sleep for it. It will become the only thing that you dream and scheme
about. It will become part of your life. You will wake up earlier than 5 am and
sleep later than midnight and you will not complain. If you want to succeed so
badly, not even poverty, cold, fame, sickness or pain of the body and the brain
will stand between you and your dream”
Lastly, never put off that which you can do today until
tomorrow. It is better to be prepared even in the absence of an opportunity that
for an opportunity to happen and not be prepared for it. I say this; we do not have control over what
happens tomorrow; it may be good or bad, but we are sure about now. The only
way to honour the lord for giving us today, is to do everything we must do today
so that tomorrow can be better should it come. In order for us to have things tomorrow
that others won’t have, we must be willing to do today things that others won’t
do. Go for that master’s degree now, it may be the thing that gets you promoted
tomorrow. If you have opportunity to attend that seminar today, go for it and
the knowledge you get and the people you meet there may become your vehicle to
the next stage of your career. Many of us will miss an opportunity tomorrow because
we decided to sleep or relax today when we should have been working on
something. Do not waste many valuable seconds in gossip and idleness, find
something you can do to improve yourself.
