THE POWER OF A WELL FOCUSED MIND

This weekend I was watching a movie starring one of my favorite Hollywood actors; Will Smith. The movie is about the legendary Muhammad Ali. It was done more than 15 years ago but it’s still epic. I love it. My main discovery from the movie is that one of Muhammad Ali’s secret weapons was his ability to keep his opponents distracted. This kind of reminded me of a story about three hunters who went to the forest and found three birds in a tree.
As soon as the hunters had taken their aim, a moderator went round asking them what they were seeing and thinking about. So, he came to the first hunter and asked him ‘what do you see?’ ‘I see a yellow bird on a leafy branch of a huge tree’ said the hunter.  To the second he asked again, ‘what do you see?’ ‘I see a yellow bird and nothing else’ replied the second hunter. To the third hunter, he asked again ‘what do you see? ‘I see a pupil of an eye of a bird’ said the third hunter. Whom do you think knocked down the bird?
To be focused means to narrow down your view so that only your target seems visible. It means to lose sight for all other distracters. Friends looking to spend time with you longer than it is necessary, the annoying officemates, the naysayers and the negative comments if given a lot of attention will become like the branches and the leaves that prevent us from focusing on the bird. If you want to lessen chances of missing your goal learn how to manage these destructions.

When you’re settling down to meet your goals, so many things come along the way that makes it difficult for us to keep our eyes on the goal. Remember, only your goal matters and everything else around you soon disappears.
