CHANGE DOES PERSIST

CHANGE KNOCKS DOWN THE UNPREPARED
This weekend I was sifting through my old letters and I found a letter I received from my wife dated December 5th, 2005.  Then, we had just known each other for two years and we were still dating. Mobile telephony had not yet penetrated in the village and our main form of communication was letters. The good old days yea?...but then what is good about remembering the days when communication was such a hustle?.....

THE HUMBLEST IS THE GREATEST.

One of the things I love to do during my free time is listening to motivational speakers and great orators on the internet. Today I am watching one of my favorite local orators; P.L.O. Lumumba. A few of the things that he is talking about really captivate me. He is giving a well-choreographed description of Greece 300 years before the birth of Christ. In those years Greece was known for so many things; its warriors, its gods, its philosophers and so on, but, my attention is drawn to its philosophers.

THIS IS WHAT LIFE MEANS

We are on the highway towards upcountry. We have been talking about politics for about three hours now and there is nothing else left to say on that topic. My uncle then says the following words while his eyes are still fixed on the road. “You know son, Life is like a road with so many signs, bends, port holes, bumps, black sports and even dead ends. On this road, we are traveling in a vehicle called rational mind, on this vehicle; we have to keep our eyes on three very important things

YOUR WILDEST IMAGINATIONS ARE NOT FAR FROM REALITY

A story is told of five young boys in an African war-torn nation. A rebel army sweeps through a coastal village rounding up able bodied boys and girls. The boys are recruited into the army as child soldiers while girls are taken as sex slaves. Five boys escape the ordeal and run toward the ocean. On reaching the shores of the ocean, they realize that the rebel soldiers had taken note of them and they were in hot pursuit. They are caught in between the soldiers and the ocean, however; deep into the sea -about five miles off the shore- sits a safe heaven, an island. Four boys agree that they have got no choice but to surrender. They are sure that it is the only other alternative choice they have besides running along and getting shot dead since the rebel soldiers are only 200 meters away. They get down on their knees and raise their hands in the air. The fifth boy, however, sees one thing that the rest haven’t; a third choice.

THE NAGGING TEMPTATION OF PERFECT EXCUSES

the nagging temptation of perfect excuses
It is a chilly weekend morning in London, the sound of the gun goes off, not to signify beginning of a war, but the beginning of the 2016 London marathon. The marathon had been going for the last 2 hours. Even though over 39,000 people started the race together, there is a group of elite Kenyan and Ethiopian female runners who have broken off from the rest. They are about six in total, they are now doing their 37th kilometer, and then the worst thing that could happen to an athlete at this point happens.

HOW TO DEVELOP A GOOD HABIT

A good routine repeated; makes a good habit

Robin Shama simply puts it; “what separates the best from the rest comes to habits” a CEO of a successful company once said, it’s in our DNA to not just impress our customers but to amaze them.” What’s in your DNA? What habits have you cultivated to an extent that they are part of who are? Check habits like; start your day early, plan before you act, save before you spend, deliver more than what you promised, take a keen interest in other people and so on.

WANT TO BE AN ACHIEVER? STOP THESE HABITS

           Stop the Victim-speak.
One morning while on my way to work, I sat close to an old woman. She looked frail and weary. As usual, I do not like sitting close to someone I haven’t known. So I said hi to her and I introduced myself. This was my biggest mistake of that morning, so to speak.  I can’t remember her name because I am positive that she did not introduce herself. But I can still remember all the whining and complaining. It was such a painful one hour. I couldn’t wait to get to town and literally run away from her. She was poisonous. She did nothing but complain about everything and everyone. This then got me thinking……
