Problem solving skills are necessary in enabling us stay ahead of the rest in this competitive world. Here are ten points to consider when solving a problem.
a)      Understand your problem well.
This will require an in-depth analysis of the problem that you are facing. It will involve a thorough research of the cause and the source of the problem, the impact of the problem and your ability to solve the problem.

b)     Be aware of your own emotions and delink them from your problems.
We all know too well that the best solutions are not the ones that are engineered under a flood of emotions. It’s good to separate your emotions from your problems. This will create room for objectivity.
c)      Be aware of your own weaknesses and biases.
This is particularly important as it enables you to come up with solutions that are not based on past experiences or false beliefs. It also enhances objectivity in the process of seeking solutions to problems.
d)     Take your time especially if you are not so well informed
Sometimes better solutions are formulated when people sit on a problem for a while. The importance of this is that it provides enough time to gather information and different views. It will help you to calm down and remain sober.
e)      Find information regarding your problem.
Dig out as much information as possible on the kind of problem you are facing this will provide you with an overview of the problem and the number of available solutions.
f)       Start by seeking the simplest solutions to your problem.
If the simple solutions do not work, you can advance to the more complex ones. Sometime problems require us to think of the simplest solutions possible. So, keep your thinking as simple as possible.
