1.
Integrity
They have a character that is beyond reproach
which calls on them to be honest in all their dealings
2.
Faith.
Leaders cannot lead people that they cannot trust.
Faith exists where there is no;
a)
Fear
b)
Dislike
c)
Contempt
Great leadership begins with absolute trust in the
people. Good leaders do understand that their positions are less valued than
the people that they lead.
3.
Good listening skills
Listening to people goes beyond hearing what they
say. It involves understanding where their hearts are, what their hopes are and
above all asking the question; what can I do to help?
4. Understanding the people.
Great leaders understand what the people they want
to lead have achieved and what dreams they hope to live for. In summary, they
understand the hearts and the minds of the people they lead. They have the
ability to see what the people see before making them see what they want them
to see.
5.
They are capable of nurturing and
expanding others.
Good leaders are tour guides and not travel
agents. They do not push people to the finish line; they take them to the
finish line. They have a personal experience of the journey that the people
would like to embark on. They have grown themselves and their happiness would
be to see others doing just that.
6.
They navigate the people.
They see the future for the people and they can
tell what’s ahead. They are visionaries and can see a little further than
everyone. They have experience of what the people hope to accomplish. They are
responsible, good communicators and they desire partnership with the people other
than worship.
7.
They connect with the people.
Good leaders have a connection with the people. They
are ready to be sacrificed at the altar on behalf of the people. They have
insights and abilities that others find necessary and useful which makes them
very necessary. They are humble yet so mighty. They have a conviction for what they
say and they say it from their heart. When they communicate they pour out their
emotions. They possess a special gift of touching the hearts of the people they
talk to
8.
They empower others
Good leaders determine not to know everything. They
are not always the primary source of communication. They spread their energy
and influence through the people around them. They let others represent them.
9.
They reproduce others
Good leaders dare their mentees to make them irrelevant
by doing what they can do better. They provide leadership training for their
juniors. They provide leadership resources and create an environment of growth
If you possess these characters, go ahead and call
yourself a leader. Remember leaders do not need their followers; their
followers need them.
