I remember growing up I always had this glorious encounters with my grandfather every morning. Our home was a typical traditional homestead, there were seven houses built in a semi circle all facing a spacious yard. The house in the middle belonged to my grandfather and my father’s house was at the age of the semicircle. I remember this big tree in the middle of the yard with a wooden bench. It was my grandfather’s favorite spot in the home.

EGO IS A LITTLE CRYBABY...LEAVE IT AT HOME
1. Leave your Ego at home
So I am leaving home at 7 am. I am already late for office. I say goodbye to the family but Adrian, my one-year-old son won’t hear any of that. He starts to cry. He wants to tag along…and I think to myself; “If only he could take care of himself”…you see. I do not like seeing him cry so helplessly. Unfortunately, I have to leave him behind……if only I could do something about it. As I walk away, I get an idea. Just the other day a friend of mine was whining about a boss of hers who won’t let her take credit for her work. Bad boss yea?.....that’s beside the point. She has a problem that I think if she can figure it out she will be a happy woman.

THE POWER OF A WELL FOCUSED MIND
This weekend I was watching a movie starring one of my favorite Hollywood actors; Will Smith. The movie is about the legendary Muhammad Ali. It was done more than 15 years ago but it’s still epic. I love it. My main discovery from the movie is that one of Muhammad Ali’s secret weapons was his ability to keep his opponents distracted. This kind of reminded me of a story about three hunters who went to the forest and found three birds in a tree.

REAL CHANGE BEGINS WITH CHANGE OF HEART
You
have probably heard about this old age story of a man that wanted to change the
entire world on his own. Please let me tell it in my own words. A story is told
of a young man in his twenties who had a vision to change the world. He thought
he could make a lasting change but after assessing his efforts and progress, he
realised that the world was too big to listen to him. He decided that in his 30s
now, he would try and change his continent. Ten years passed and he realised
that he could not change his continent. Then he revised his goals downward and
decided that in his 40s he could at least focus all his energy on changing his
country. Soon it dawned on him that even his country was too big for him to
change. He swallowed a bitter pill again and with great pain and
disappointment, he revised his goal further down words.

YOUR VERY BEST IS YOURSELF
Time spent with your family is time best spent. When my daughter and I do not have much to
talk about, we read a story from one her favorite story books. Yesterday, we
read a story about donkey that got me thinking…..”Once upon a time the king of
the jungle organized a party for all his friends. He insisted that the invited
guests look their very best for the occasion. Donkey had a difficult time
deciding what to do in order to look her best. Her friend zebra told her that
she already looked great and that all she needed to do was clean herself and
wear a hat for the occasion.

CHANGE DOES PERSIST
CHANGE KNOCKS DOWN THE UNPREPARED
This weekend I was sifting through my old letters and I found a letter I received from my wife dated December 5th, 2005. Then, we had just known each other for two years and we were still dating. Mobile telephony had not yet penetrated in the village and our main form of communication was letters. The good old days yea?...but then what is good about remembering the days when communication was such a hustle?.....

THE HUMBLEST IS THE GREATEST.
One of the things I love to do during my free time is listening to motivational speakers and great orators on the internet. Today I am watching one of my favorite local orators; P.L.O. Lumumba. A few of the things that he is talking about really captivate me. He is giving a well-choreographed description of Greece 300 years before the birth of Christ. In those years Greece was known for so many things; its warriors, its gods, its philosophers and so on, but, my attention is drawn to its philosophers.
